The Acapulco is a classic chair which originally was designed back in the 50s. The Danish furniture company OK Design has updated the lounge chair with new colors and other materials, which makes the chair more contemporary. The Acapulco chair is available in five colors and two models: The original model for adults and a miniature version for children.
The Acapulco chair is named after the famous and well-known Pacific beach resort: Acapulco, located in the Pacific coast of Mexico. Back in the 50s Acapulco was the favorite getaway for American celebrities and millionaires such as J.F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, John Wayne and The Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin).
These celebrities have all been sitting in the Acapulco chair in a relaxed environment while they enjoyed the view of Acapulco Bay. Photos and television footage of these celebrities made the Acapulco chair an instant worldwide success.
It is said that the chair was designed by a French tourist who was visiting Acapulco in the 50s, and at some point was uncomfortably warm on top of a solid-built chair in the sunshine. Inspired by the Mayan hammock open string weaving construction, he designed a chair that fits the modern tropics.
The authentic design with a almost graphic expression has made the Acapulco chair to one of the most trendy lounge chairs for all generations. The surprisingly good sitting comfort, the lightness and fresh colors makes this chair suitable for both exterior and interior use.
The chair is hand crafted and constructed of a solid steel frame with a black matte powder coating and a flexible yet durable silky matt vinyl cord in the colors: black, light blue, petroleum blue, yellow and orange. For additional comfort 100% polyester fabric cushions in 4 different colors can be purchased as accessories.
The Acapulco chair can be purchased for 349 euros on the link below. For further information click on these links:
